Here at Monkey Palooza we believe as the earth warms there are things we can do to mitigate the effects on our everyday lives.
Cut down on your electric bill.
Find your time-of-use on your electric bill. Then use less energy when the rates are high and more energy when the rates are low. Doing so will help even out the cost of the energy you use each day.
Turn off unnecessary lights.
You can pre-cool your home by bringing in cool morning air and close the windows as temperatures rise outside. Draw the shades and turn on the fan to keep cool. If you have an air conditioner you can turn it on in the morning and turn it off in the afternoon before the hottest part of the day. This way the air conditioner will not have to work as hard and you’ll save money on your electric bill.
You can wash your clothes early in the morning or late at night use cold water and dry run a full load, this will help you save on your electric bill.
If you have a dishwasher you should watch your dishes late night.
Remember saving electricity is also saving money.
Power outages can occur during periods of high heat when residents and businesses use a large amount of electricity at the same time. Particularly from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. when air conditioning is in heavy usage. You Should have a plan to deal with them in case one should occur.
A Few Things to Help You Staying Cool
Limit Your time doing outdoor activities and stay out of the midday sun. Cover your head, neck, arms, and legs with light-colored and light-weight clothing
If you don’t have Air Conditioning in your home, you might want to look up the closest Cooling Center near you.
Drink plenty of water. Soda, coffee, and alcohol are not the same as water, so drink them in moderation.
